Da sempre, il mese di dicembre è fatto per riguardare indietro all'anno appena trascorso e, tra un regalo di Natale last minute e l'altro, tirare le somme sulle migliori uscite musicale degli ultimi 12 mesi.
Con la contaminazione del pop con suoni provenienti dai generi più disparati e temi di attualità, le hit di quest'anno sono sempre più proiettate verso il futuro, sempre mantenendo uno sguardo al passato. Il 2021 ha segnato il grande ritorno di sound che spaziano dagli anni '70 fino ai primi 2000 ed il ritorno in classifica di grandi hit sotto forma di cover, sample o remix.
Come ogni anno, Billboard ha pubblicato la sua tradizionale classifica delle 100 migliori canzoni di quest'anno: ovviamente non potevano mancare The Kid Laroi e Dua Lipa con le loro megahit "Stay" e "Levitating", insieme a The Weeknd con ben 3 brani nella top 100. Avril Lavigne atterra al numero 68 con "Bite Me", l'unico singolo pubblicato dal prossimo album in uscita nel 2022.
